December 1952
Mon. Dec. 1. 1952./ No. eggs today./ Elbert carried up some wood & cut some today. Partly Cloudy, but not very cold & st wind. I had a hard time washing out a few necessary pieces but after sitting down a good number of times, but now at 10-p-m I’ve got them dried & put away, I want to wipe up the floor & sew if I can, head is not so bad tonight but could hardly stand on my feet all day but Praise God, Jesus gave me enough strength to get done I starched my dresses after supper but they dry good over the fire. I thank Thee Jesus & pray you will get me off to Church.
Tue. Dec. 2. 1952./ No. eggs/ Well I didn’t do much today, crocheted a little swept the floor & did the daily round & neither did Elbert it started to snow lat 10-p-m. & we had 6 or 7 inches of snow, Elbert swept the path’s clean & did outside chores. It snowed some this morning, looked like Christmas, evergreens were beautiful. We received card from Nellie, she said (Dear Folks.) I suppose we should be happy we are just Dear Folks, but it would be nice to know she loved us as a brother & sister. She said Johny came & took them all over to his house & brought them all home again (that was for Thanksgiving, Audrey was sick & I don’t know what Martha did, they expect Jean & her man home for Christmas Audrey said
Wed. Dec. 3. 1952./ page. 3013/ No. eggs today./ Well it’s been mostly cloudy & I finished the Kercheif & now I can send the box to Annabell Chair set for her booties for great grand daughter & Kercheif “pink with green & white butterfly & edge” very pretty I hope I can pack or box them & send them tomorrow. Elbert thinks he will go to town, if he gets his check. I’m tired, I hurried as fast as I could, but you know, I can’t hurry any more, Oh I like to give, if only I had the money, but looks as if I can’t even send out the cards any more, haven’t even got any this year to send, I feel that’s the least we can do in re-memberance of Jesus & to let them know we still think of them. We see a number of flocks of geese & heard several that we didn’t see after midnight last night 8 or 10 groups some were so low we could see them turn there heads flying & talking among them selves in a quite & orderly manor. I thank Thee Dear Heavenly Father in Jesus Holy Name for our many blessing. I pray Thou will take me & use me for Thy Good & Glory.
Thurs. Dec. 4. 1952./ No. eggs today./ I got up & we had dinner & I fixed the box with Annabel’s chair set, Anna Mae’s Kercheif & the Annabel’s great grand daughters booties & then we went to Vermilion & got 23- dollars worth of food & such a little food for so much money. but since the Goverment says a dollar is only worth 48 cents we don’t get half value well we got a little more meat this time caned meats & we got a chicken “2.94 one little hen” & a little ham but 4.95, we use to buy a good sized pig for 10 to $14.00, times have sure done a big flop in 32 yrs. Been mostly cloudy & rained a little in light sprinkles all way home we got here at 4-30-p-m. & Elbert fed the 9 hens, he bought a bag of mash $5.10 & paid 2.03 for gas & prestone & getting tire looked after & the fellow at gas & repair shop told Elbert to take his tire back where he got it & he felt sure they would give him a new one for $2.00 & old tire. so I hope he will. It cost 34 cents to send Annabel’s box. We couldn’t get a window for the coop Elbert waits untill the last minute & he could have got them only a short time ago & to day he wanted me to keep track of all he spent & give him back half out of my check, he don’t give me half on the gas or coal or the taxes. Oh; it’s terrible, the way life is he ask me to go to town & then groans at every thing we buy he dropped a can of pigs feet & it broke all in little pieces & he said why did-n’t you hold it untill I could take it everyone looked at me & grined & giggled, life seems all most unbearable sometime. but I thank God He took & brought us & the car safly. I Praise Thee Jesus & thank Thee for all our many blessings. We are all sinners although we try every day & I didn’t get to prayer meeting tonight. Many things are so cruel & I have to fight in many ways & I can see I’ll have to be more firm about going to church, also.
Fri. Dec. 5. 1952./ page. 3014./ No. eggs today./ Radio says west & N. West wind, colder to-night, with rain & snow. Elbert was up to Huron for fish, but they had pulled all the nets & no fish. & they wont have any more nets to lift this year. & I had just got ready to get dinner, so I made us a cup of tea & got the dinner, he carried up wood made -7- trips up the hill, with wood after dinner, but as usual, my shopping trip was hard on me & so I didn’t get only the sweeping done & I had to get supper or help, and now I’ll wash the dishes & go to bed. We haven’t seen the geese to day or to night. I am still learning about life, God’s right in all things & Rev DeHaan sure pictures the word of God in away, no one can denigh & in the ways I have had in mind many times, but, even the christians say I’m crazy. Praise God, I love Him, I do make heaps of mistake, but With His help I get up & try again, Oh, how unworthy we are & each day I realize more & more how unworthy I am forgive me Jesus Blessed Jesus & strengthen me & use me as Thou Will. I thank Thee more than I’ll ever be able to tell in word.

I helped Elbert with the dinner & supper & I ironed & swept & am to tired, but Praise God I could do as much as I did. We see a big flock of geese going south west, flying low & some one shot 4 or 5 times in among them, I saw 2 fall poor things, but perhaps we’ll be in the same fix before long, things are in a terrible fix all over the world. May God help us. I thank Him & praise Him for all things, Amen. Cloudy all day & tonight & dark, but we see it had cleared up at 9-p-m & starlight, stars are very clear & the radio said, tempture would go down to 22 before morning. warmed up & rained & melted snow that fell last night didn’t rain today.
