April  1953

[April 1 is out of sequence.  She forgot to write that day and filled it in later apparently]

Thurs. April. 2. 1953./ 5. eggs today./  Elbert went to Vermilion to see if plant had come but they had not    he mailed a card to Audrey  got a small side of beef to fry & came back,  he wasn’t gone long enough, it didn’t seem to go & get done his earns & back again.   We went to Huron to-night to prayer meeting   We had a real good prayermeeting, testimonies prayer & several songs & after prayer We all felt blessed   I Praise God & pray I don’t make tomany mistakes.   Been a nice Spring day   it rained hard from midnight un-till after day light & sprinkled off & on & then sun came out.   Elbert’s been spading a place for the strawberries today.   Well, I have finished the crocheted chair set once more.   guess I’ll send this one to Easel & then maybe I do one for Wyn & Virgina   I know Virginia will like it to & then one for Inez & Madeline, Nellie & May & then Marcie & Sister Nellie & Maybe Bonney Bell.   I suppose Bonita & Ella Jane will want one also.   I don’t know if Audrey & Gertie would like one or not but Jean Ann & Loura Ann might.   I thank & Praise Thee Jesus for all things Amen.

Wed. April 1. 1953./ Page. 3066./ 4 eggs today/ Felt bum & forgot to write so it was a wet damp day & I only did my daily round & it was just cold enough so fire felt good   Elbert fixed & filled boxes for seed but they’re not planted yet & I wonder, it’s so cold at night, cold rain.   Well I thank God in Jesus Name for all things & give Him the Glory,  He is Wonderful, Marvelous,  I wish I were like Him.   Audrey says if Easter is like Palm Sunday people will be disappointed & can’t wear there Easter togs,   Will Jesus be disapointed?  He wants to save there souls,  how foolish all the things people buy for Easter instead of giving for God’s work in saving soul, God help us.

Fri. April. 3. 1953./ 5 eggs today./ Good Friday.   I washed & Elbert went Huron & got a good mess of fish & he came home & cleaned them,  I got the potatoes & fry pan ready & when he got fish cleaned, I had everything done   we fried fish & had dinner   Elbert hung all the cloths out on the linie & wind was N. east, but changed to South, & all but the handkercheifs & rags, dried out side.   Elbert spaded some,  he had to dip fish this morning & so he’s so tired tonight,   was a fine day & tonight air is damp, Keeps ground wet & cold.   I thank God for His mercies & Kindness   We are as He says so stuborn & want to do things in such a hurry, but, God don’t do things like we do most things.  He takes His time, some times we must be tested, to see if we will be true to Him, for so many times people promise, then say they can’t endure it any longer While God is patient & enduring,  help I pray before it’s to late  Jesus to call to Thee & live for Thee.  Now got supper with only a little of my help & now he’s in bed & I’m going to my bed soon;  I thank & Praise Thee Jesus for all things & thank Thee for taking care of us today Amen.

Sat. April 4. 1953./ 6. eggs today./ Elbert received his check & went to Vermilion & bought the grocerys $31.72 cents worth & I have to give him 15.86 for half of the food & he eats it or most of it & I have to give him  2.80 for milk   that will be a total of $18.66 cents    it rained few showers & sun  shone, bright between times   I swept & darned & patched socks & underwear Elberts’ & fixed garter on my corset & done dishes & mixed chicken for balls & cooked & sweat.   my feet hurt me so bad   Elbert washed chicken & put part to cook, & ground part for the balls & he is feeling all tired out also   his arm pains him bad   A. clerk a little woman in Krogers store, sent me a choclate Rabbit about 8 ins. high.   I don’t know her & it was such a kind & thoughtful thing, for her to remem-ber me.   I thank Thee Jesus & for all things & am so glad you loved me & saved my soul   I hope to go to sunrise prayermeeting in the morning With Thy help.

Thurs. April 9. 1953./ 7. eggs today./ I haven’t done much again today   feet hurt me so bad   seems as if I can’t endure it,   but I have to, for When Jesus heals us He expects us to come to Him when anything’s wrong with us & & He’s never in a big hurry like we are & we don’t have the patients we ought have,   so after such a long time, when the church folks had prayed in doubt, I was so miserable I did sin,  I went to a foot Dr. & he padded my foot & punched the bone clear out of place,   now, I have to suffer untill Jesus sets me free.   I went to several who claimed to have the Gift of healing,   but didn’t receive the healing & each time I think perhaps this Dr or that might help me,   I hear the Spirit say, Jesus is able,   so, I must trust & will wait, & may all the Glory be His forever & ever Amen.   I thank Thee for all things great or small.   I thank Thee for the card today from Audrey.  God bless her & save her I pray.

Sun. April. 19. 1953./ 4 eggs today./ took picture in snow./Well its been a great day.   I got up & gave Elbert 2 anacins at 3-a-m., he said it was the Clorox that made him cough & sneeze, but at last the spirit showed me he had taken a cold, as I had thought when he first got home from fish house,   he was out on the dock helping fishermen putting baskets for them to fill & pulling filled ones out of the way,   he got to coughing so bad I got up & I was feeling so bad myself  seemed as if I couldn’t get up & drag myself around,   but, I crushed the anacins & heat wath & gave them to him,   he didn’t want to drink only half the water,   I waited a few minutes & told him to drink the rest of the water,   he grumbled & said now he’d get up & have another chill, & a few more things such as that   then he drank the water & covered up head & ears & I crushed another anacin & left it in the spoon to give him an hour or so later,   but, he slept & didn’t take it untill he got up this morning & he felt lots better than he ever expected to this -a-m   I ask Jesus to do that for I didn’t feel able & He did, Praise His Blessed Holy Name & it rained & then at noon it snowed & the trees were so pretty   look like Christmas & then melted   I took some pictures while the snow was thick, it has snowed & melted 3 times today & tonight   it is at it again,  ground is white again & everything else.   We were home & listened to sermons all day on radio & most of them were good   Billy Graham Preaches as if he on fire for the Lord,  he preaches the truth & says if the shoe fit put it on & if it pinches turn your whole heart to God.   Oh God, help us to live closer to Thee I thank Thee for Thy care & mercy, but, trust I may do more for Him to prove I’m just a little worthy   but I know I’m a long ways from being perfect alll though I like to be perfect & holy as He is,   I Praise Thee Jesus for answering prayer & I’m trusting for convertion healing & filling of the Holy Spirit Glory to God; Hallelujah.   I’m so weak & miserable yet & trusting in God’s help. Sun. April. 26.1953./ 3. eggs today./ Dark day,   I felt so bad I didn’t get up untill 3-p-m.  & my feet & legs still ach, swelling not quite so bad as it was yesterday.   Well it rained hard last night & hailed twice & tonight it just rained in showers & Radio says same for tomorrow   I had a queer “dream” seem I went to Vermilion to morning services & there were quite a few there & the had placed a few chairs between altar & front row of seats with backs toward altar & Mrs West Sr. & Mrs. Lindy West & 2 or 3 other women were before me.   I was the 4 or 5 chair toward center isle & we stood up & the Minister a man ask us to all pray & He was praying all so,  the Lord torched me & I shouted Praise the Lord, Glory Hallelujah,  they began moving out to center isle & I slipped down on my Knees & began to pray & Minister said be careful not to touch her    move around her & after a long time I stood up & some how got around to the altar & he said you are truly God’s child   go to the other church & help them all you can & God will bless you & then, just before we went in to the service, I had to babies  one that could walk & one about 10 months old   a woman gave them to me & said they drank something & it made them sick,   I don’t know what to do    I sent Dorthy Lindy’s West to get the Minister & she didn’t come back,  will you keep them while I go? so I took them & prayed God to help them throw up all of what had made them sick & the baby threw up first & then the other one   then they smiled at me & there mother came back & said the Minister said, go back & get them   they are all right & I said they both threw up what ever it was they drank & they are O.K. now,   she looked at me rather queer  took them & went.

Sun April. 26. 1953./ page 3078/ 3. eggs this day./ away with out a word looking at me as if she loathed me   the rest look at me the same way,   But the Minister said after he had talked to me, while they were getting back to there seats, then he said this woman is a real child of God,  Why do you reject her?  she has been ill in soul & body,  how many of you treated her as you would your own   hold up your hand;  but no one help up there hands,   I felt so hummilated, he dismiss the congregation & a few came & said they were sorry,   but, not Myrtle & so I left feeling sorry for them.   I do feel bad be-cause I’m not able to praise God in spirit & because they don’t bother to come to see me & act superior  as if they were superior to me, ignore me.   I Pray God will forgive & help us all to live as He wants us to live.   Oh God, fill me & heal me in Jesus Name I ask  I thank Thee Amen.
